Warm color temperatures are often favored in residential interiors because they complement wood, stone, textiles, and skin tones. Yet warmer is not always better. The appropriate choice depends on the material palette, intended mood, and the balance of daylight within the space.
Color rendering is equally consequential. High-quality light allows finishes, art, and furnishings to read with greater accuracy and richness. Beam angle determines whether a light softly washes a surface, precisely highlights an object, or creates unwanted scallops and harsh hot spots. These decisions should be made in relation to real dimensions and surfaces, not by fixture appearance alone.
Plan Controls as Part of the Design
A sophisticated lighting scheme can feel frustrating if the controls are confusing. The goal is to give occupants flexibility without asking them to manage a wall of switches.
